DWGP has immediate openings for two attorneys, one in the area of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) practice and one in the area of Energy Project Development.  The two positions are ideal for creative thinkers that are eager to work with a team of experienced and innovative attorneys to dive-in, learn and tackle new, complex matters and issues affecting the energy and utility industries.

FERC Energy Attorney:

DWGP seeks a highly motivated attorney with significant FERC or other energy regulatory experience to join the team. Required Qualifications

J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar

5+ years of legal experience, including but not limited to at a law firm, FERC, state public utility commission, in-house for a city, municipal utility, or rural electric cooperative

Relevant Experience/Responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

  • Administrative litigation before FERC and/or state regulatory commissions (including research, drafting pleadings, developing strategy, settlement negotiations, administrative hearings, and appellate representation) regarding electricity and/or natural gas issues;
  • Contract negotiation involving transmission or generation services or assets, including renewable resources;
  • Representation regarding organized market developments, including energy, imbalance, and capacity market issues;
  • Review and development of electric and/or gas tariffs;
  • Advising with regards to NERC Reliability Standards compliance;
  • Municipalization, local law, tribal law, or not-for-profit matters;
  • Legislative/policy development and advocacy;
  • Government contracts, grant management and compliance; and
  • A variety of other matters involving energy, environmental, land use, or sustainability issues.

Energy Project Development Attorney:

DWGP seeks a highly motivated attorney with significant Energy Project Development experience to join the team. This full-time position is a great opportunity to join a well-established law firm, work in an exciting, fast-paced environment on cutting-edge legal issues, and work for a client base whose focus is providing consumers with reliable energy at affordable prices. For the right candidate, remote/hybrid work options are available.  The position requires the ability and willingness to travel on behalf of the Firm and its clients. Responsibilities

Provide legal support for energy project development, particularly renewable energy projects, for public power, cooperative and tribal communities.  

Preferred Qualifications

J.D. degree and membership in at least one US state bar.

5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house.

Relevant Experience includes:

  • Representation of public power, cooperative, and/or tribal utilities
  • Renewable project development
  • Project financing, including tax incentives, grants, and Federal and commercial financing resources
  • Drafting and negotiation of generator interconnection processes and agreements
  • Negotiation of energy project contracts
  • Negotiation of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts
  • Negotiation of public-private contracts
  • Negotiation of power purchase agreements (PPAs)
  • Advising on transmission pricing and planning
  • Corporate Law, especially structuring and managing special purpose vehicles for renewable projects
