DWGP mourns the passing of two close friends and colleagues, who each were a key part of DWGP’s life and practice.
Don Clarke was an esteemed attorney with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for years, and many practitioners cite to his work for the Commission to this day. Don practiced much of his career thereafter in private practice, including with the law firm GKRSE, and was well respected in the energy bar. More recently, DWGP was fortunate to have Don join the firm, where his contributions were critical in enhancing the firm’s hydroelectric law practice. We fondly remember Don as a talented artist and a supremely kind individual, whose door was always open to answer a challenging hydro law question or simply for a chat.
Barry McCarthy was a friend of DWGP going back several decades. Practicing from San José, California, Barry’s efforts played a major role in building DWGP’s relationships with the firm’s California clients. He zealously represented the City of Santa Clara and other California public power entities in securing and protecting their rights to serve the electric needs of their customers at affordable rates. Barry was a Shareholder with DWGP in D.C., transitioning to Of Counsel with the Firm when he moved to California, first forming Law Offices of Barry F. McCarthy, and in 2002, along with C. Susie Berlin, forming McCarthy & Berlin. DWGP attorneys had the privilege of working with Barry on complex litigation in defense of municipal clients. After retiring from full-time practice, Barry continued to contribute to the legal profession and his community, representing clients in need on a pro bono basis. We remember Barry as an avid golfer and a talented attorney.
Both Don and Barry will be missed dearly by his friends at DWGP.
